The grounds of Moondance Ridge are certified as a Wildlife Habitat. This means that in addition to being environmentally conscious with all our plantings, we also provide food and nesting places for native wildlife. On Earth Day 2007 over 1,000 trees and shrubs were planted on the grounds in order to demonstrate our commitment to the environment. The majority of the plantings were white spruce, which have a life span of 400 to 800 years. It is our legacy to the community. Our lights and pumps for the grounds are powered by solar energy. We chip all dead trees as a way to recycle what is no longer viable. Home grown organic herbs are used for cooking whenever possible. We also recycle all bottles, paper and cardboard.
